Suzanne Strachan assumed responsibility for operating Cheney Insurance Agency as our new President on January 15, 2019. She has been with our company since 2011 and in that relatively short period of time has proven herself to be an extremely capable leader.
Suzanne understands the critical importance of our insurance work, and in bringing value and peace-of-mind to each client we serve. She has a keen business sense and has a unique ability to guide and motivate her teams. Suzanne genuinely cares for and supports the health and well-being of our staff as we work hard each day to meet the needs of our customers and the communities in which we live.
She continues to assist Dennis Hilton, CEO in the overseeing and operating of Newcastle Realty and Newcastle Vacation Rentals, which along with Cheney Insurance comprises the Cheney Financial Group. Among her many responsibilities, Suzanne oversees all employee relations, the technology infrastructure serving all three companies, insurance company partnerships, marketing, and attracting and evaluating potential talent.
What does she do in her down time? She enjoys life in Mid-Coast Maine with her husband and their cat, MaSweet.
CFO and Vice-President of Operations
In Joe’s own words, he is ‘a dad who happens to be an accountant.’ We know him to be an accounting genius who manages the analysis side of financial performance for the Cheney Financial Group, which includes Cheney Insurance Agency. In addition, Joe provides behind the scenes support for our agents that allows them to focus on outstanding customer service.
Joe played a leading part in our transition to our newly obtained agency management system and it became clear that his role at Cheney is much larger than Controller. Therefore, shortly after the transition Joe was promoted to Chief Financial Officer | Vice-President of Operations.
He demonstrates regularly that he is able to manage multiple tasks as well as to be a team player and an exceptional resource. Undoubtedly, this is due to the frequent fishing, hiking, kayaking, gardening, plasma cutting, welding, and culinary arts he enjoys with his son Quin.
Joe holds an MBA and is an IRS Enrolled Agent.
Vice-President Business Insurance
Peggy’s team philosophy and standard of excellence preceded her promotion to Vice-President of our Business Insurance Department. She has worked in the insurance industry since 2000 and has earned the professional designations of Accredited Customer Service Representative (ACSR) and Accredited Adviser in Insurance (AAI). She received Cheney’s President’s Award in 2014 for ‘exceptional and dedicated service.’
Peggy has extensive experience in assisting our business clients to identify their insurance risks and develop a plan to provide the best coverage for them, whether they are a sole proprietor or a large corporation. She deeply cares about the community in which she lives and the relationships she has established over the years through Cheney Insurance.
Peggy has a special place in her heart for animal rescue work and has adopted her four-legged kiddo’s through various rescue organizations and shelters. Many of our clients know that when visiting our offices, their beloved family dog will always find a treat at her desk.
Business Insurance Agent and Team Leader
Brittany considers every day an adventure. She loves to help others and be actively involved in her community. Brittany is a Girl Scout leader, serves on her town’s budget committee and is VP of her daughter’s school PTO. She coordinates our own Community Involvement Committee here at Cheney Insurance Agency.
Brittany’s involvement in the community in which she serves helps her analyze our business client’s unique risks and provide insurance recommendations that are tailored for them. She has an exceptional attention to detail and appreciates the importance of being thorough.
Brittany has worked in the insurance industry for 7 years, has been licensed for 5 years and earned the designation of Certified Professional Insurance Agent in 2018.
She enjoys our beautiful state of Maine through kayaking, beach-going, and gardening.
Business Insurance Agent
Jasmyn has been with us at Cheney Insurance for 3 years. She began working in personal lines and is now full-time in our commercial insurance department.
Jasmyn considers herself a ‘young professional.’ We agree. She is bright, insightful, and a great listener. Jasmyn is dedicated to helping others and values the trust established between her and the business clients we serve.
Most recently, Jasmyn has become our unofficial IT expert as she demonstrated immediate mastery of our newly obtained management system. She is an integral part of assisting our team to reach optimization using this system.
Jasmyn attributes her skills of working cooperatively and listening to other’s opinions to her involvement in sports. She continues to live a healthy, active lifestyle and inspires others around her to do the same.
Personal Insurance Agent and Team Leader
Holly is known around the office for her ingenuity, efficiency and extensive knowledge in the fundamentals and practical details of a good insurance policy. She advocates on behalf of our customers with insurance carriers to provide them with information about the uniqueness of living along the Maine coast and the associated insurance risks. Why? So, they can produce competitive products and our customers can get individualized insurance coverages.
Holly contributes greatly to the supportive, collaborative, team centered approach we take here at Cheney Insurance. She regularly surprises us with her culinary skills and livens up our office with her brilliant sense of humor. Holly is also a member of Cheney's Community Involvement Committee.
What may be lesser known about Holly is that she has her Master’s Degree in Criminology, she is an avid fan of the Rolling Stones, and she is a Notary Public.
Bobbi Lynn Monaghan
Personal Insurance Agent
Bobbi Lynn brightens our offices with her radiant laughter and positive and caring attitude. She is hardworking and gives 100% to whatever task is before her.
Bobbi Lynn works in our personal lines department as a licensed agent and holds the unique designation of passing her licensing exam on the first try. She takes pride in being able to communicate the details of insurance coverages so that they are easily understood by our clients.
She was born in the Azores, on the island of Terceira, into a Navy family and has lived on both the East and West Coast of the United States. Bobbi Lynn has been settled here in Maine for the past 15 years, though she still loves to travel.
Bobbi Lynn is a Marine Mom and is involved with various veteran groups. She enjoys spending time with family, horseback riding, reading, and supporting her local animal shelters. Bobbi Lynn is also a Notary Public.
Support Department Team Leader
Debbie has worked at Cheney Insurance since 1993 when she was hired as the receptionist. She has received the Cheney Award for Special Appreciation for Exceptional Team Building Efforts and has recently received our 25 years Dedicated & Loyal Service Award.
Debbie was born in Connecticut and summered in Maine (where she met her future husband) until moving here in 1978. Her and her husband live in Waldoboro where they raised their two awesome sons. Debbie enjoys spending time in Pemaquid and camping on Damariscotta Lake.
Not only does Debbie have extensive knowledge of Cheney Insurance Agency, but the Insurance Industry itself. She has a fondness for automobiles, especially the classics, and is a treasure trove of interesting insurance scenarios. Debbie does all the processing work for Personal Lines and handles the internet interfacing with our Insurance Providers.
Debbie was recently promoted to Support Department Team Leader as this department has grown. She manages the day to day operations and is the go-to person when training new staff.
Insurance Support Specialist
Stephanie was born and raised on Cape Cod, MA. She started vacationing in Maine after college and fell in love with the mid-coast area. She and her husband have lived in Waldoboro for the past 19 years where they raise their two sons.
Stephanie was hired on at Cheney Insurance to a newly created part-time position in our support department. She assists our accounting team, orders office supplies, takes overflow calls, fills in at the reception desk when needed, contributes to our blog … you get the picture.
Stephanie has consistently shown a willingness to take on any task asked of her. She will often see something that needs to be done and do it. Though she only works part-time, her presence is now an ever-present part of our team.
Director of First Impressions
Tammy has recently moved back to Maine from L.A., California where she has lived for the past 45 years. She has extended family that live throughout Maine going back generations. Tammy loves the beauty of the Maine Coast and the change of pace, though she readily admits she is still adjusting to the colder temperatures and how people give driving directions (landmarks vs. street names).
Tammy has extensive customer service experience. She has worked in the banking industry and also at a phone company where she did everything from 411 operator to security and quality control.
We appreciate Tammy’s sense of humor, reliability and ability to establish rapport with our customers. She manages our reception area and helps support our personal and commercial departments.
Tammy enjoys family gatherings, children, music and animals of all kinds. She considers herself a 'flower girl' who loves football, and has two grown sons.
