As part of our community outreach program, Cheney Insurance will be hosting our first blood drive on October 15th from 10:00 to 3:00. Brittany Carter, our community outreach coordinator, has organized this fantastic event with the help of the American Red Cross.
Along with awesome raffle prizes from Crystal McLain Arts, Se Vende, and Main Street Grocery, Mariners tickets will be up for grabs!
If you are interested in participating you can sign up online on the American Red Cross web site: Choosing a donation time. Walk-ins are welcome, though scheduled appointments are taken first, or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) for availability.
Debbie Furman, our Support Department Team Leader, donates more than anyone else at Cheney. She started in High School and signed up so she could get out of school for the remainder of the day. Debbie has kept it up over the years because she learned that she has O (neg) which is the universal blood type. Her blood type can be used in transfusions for any blood type, hence it is used for emergency transfusions, it is also used for immune deficient infants.
If you are considering donating blood for the first time, this is a good article that tells you what you can expect.
If you would like to learn more about donating blood, the American Red Cross has video testimonials of how donated blood saves lives. Perhaps you have been the recipient of a blood transfusion or you know someone who has, then you know the importance of blood drives like this one. We hope you will join us on October 15th!
